Development organisation FinScope’s research shows that between 2004 and 2008 the number of banked adults increased from 6m to 20m, with the Mzansi initiative accounting for two- thirds of the newly banked. But with almost 12m adults still unbanked, it is an ongoing process. Standard Bank alone is opening 40000 Mzansi accounts every month

There is a perception that empowerment programmes must be cost centres. A sustainable programme has to be mutually beneficial. I am very glad to see that Mzansi is working for the banks - you can expect to see more products coming out.
