Ok - so we didn't make it through to the finals. Kath says we don't deserve to be in semis. She's right, but there were enough brilliant moments to be a proud South African supporter. It's so funny how you can have brilliant performances by certain individuals on some days and then absolute mediocrity.
Smith hit on the nail when he said they were outclassed by the Aussies. They were more than outclassed, they were summarily destroyed. The only thing about the Aussies is that they haven't put a foot wrong - no real brilliance, just perfect consistency. I would get goosebumps when Smith, Gibbs or Boucher were on form. I love watching Kallis tossing a little caution to the wind (although last night's performance was just plain terrible), AB hitting a century, Andrew Hall making mincemeat of the limeys.
So - here we sit a somewhat dejected nation. I think the management of the team, and the strategy it followed was extremely flawed but I don't believe that we should be baying for blood just yet. Smith has a long way to go as a captain, and in spite of his distinct disadvantage of being a KES boy he has what it takes. And Mickey Arthur - I don't know. But let's not can him yet - this is a good team. And Justin Kemp - I swore at him every night. He somewhat redeemed himself last night but he'd better start playing some cricket soon because his copy book is well blotted.
I'm going to continue supporting the Proteas because I believe in the cricket we can play (I was at the 438 game).
