It's great having insiders in every corner. Kim and Rienzo forwarded me a little more information on the new codes. Rienzo and I were going to attend an AmCham conference on the new codes at the end of November. We got an email this morning informing us that:
"The Minister of Trade & Industry presented the BEE Codes to Cabinet on Wednesday this week (November 8, 2006). After much discussion the end result was that more changes were required. The Codes will now be presented to Cabinet on December 6 and will most likely be gazetted after this."
The conference is probably going to happen in Feb next year.
Kim forwarded me a longer explanation that she dug up off the Business Report website.
"Cabinet has asked the dti to simplify the proposed BEE codes of good practice, and has sought an interdepartmental task team to finalise the work on them. The task team would finish work on the codes and report back next month."
The article wobbles a bit when it comes to preferential procurement - so I wouldn't read the whole thing.
As Peter Green might say, "Oh well"
