The pressure is mounting for the dti to release the final codes. The myriad different interpretations of the codes can only lead to more confusion.
The Sunday Times ran a special feature on mergers and acquisitions this weekend. It is pleasant to note that it is not only normal business that is waiting for the codes, merchant banks are lining up anticipating a flurry of M&A activity once the codes have been finalised. Ashraf Dada of Ernst and Young predicts a fair amount of activity from the media sector within the next 12 months. He suggests that multinationals will also get into deal mode after this.
Better news for deal makers is that the secondary market is also expected to take off. The secondary market being BEE players selling to new BEE players.
